I agree 100%, but I am only posting to get to 10,000 in case that's the new minimum.

Just replying to my own post, because that counts.

FWIW, I never do video chat. I don't even like talking on the phone, video as cool and modern as it might be, just does not appeal to me.

So, I don't even have Facetime or Zoom or Skype on any of my devices. Or, if they are there by default, I've certainly never used them. I'm afraid if you ask me for a video chat, I'd have to decline. I guess that makes me a bad seller. Scammers Kick it Up a Notch - Watch out! (2)

IA. I guess my days of engaging via buying and selling in the Marketplace are over.
I'm lucky that I got to try some ukuleles that I wouldn't have been able to try otherwise, and got to sell a few too.
I have one I should be selling, but maybe this gives me an excuse to keep it. Scammers Kick it Up a Notch - Watch out! (3)

Don't overreact. You can still buy from @SkeeterAB which mean you'll have the choice of 10-12 ukes per month assuming she sticks to her one-in-one-out rule. What? What did I say?

That's ultimately up to you and whoever you're transacting with. Maybe direct email is enough for both of you. There's aren't any rules about this yet. Best practice is only that. Anything you'd rather not do, don't.

Just be aware that some people who don't know you might be looking for verification that you're not willing to give. No problem. They'll find something else to buy, and you'll find someone to sell to who already knows you, and has some way to verify that you are who you claim to be.

This is the irreducible bottom line. Our last successful scammer hijacked the account of a highly respected VIP with a long history in the marketplace. That is not who was typing those words, though, which why you absolutely, categorically CANNOT count on the screen name to assure you that you're in the midst of a legit transaction.

That said, the fact is that screen names are way more reliable than they used to be. We've done our jobs on UU admin side to require more secure passwords, and to encourage 2FA for sellers. We automatically lock every account that hasn't been used for 90 days. We automatically check the top 300 databases of compromised passwords daily, and if your password winds up on one of them, we lock the account until you create a new, secure password, which in itself is a new requirement.

The rest is on buyers. Decide what YOU need to feel comfortable to be positive that the person on the other side of the keyboard is who they claim to be, and don't let the fever that we've all felt lead you to compromise your own safety. Scammers Kick it Up a Notch - Watch out! (7)

You can always just post the uke on Reverb as well, and if someone doesn't feel comfortable buying here without additional verification you don't want to provide, direct them to the Reverb post. You'll lose a little extra in fees but imo the hassle-free experience is worth the slight extra cost.

Or just use it as an excuse to keep more ukes Scammers Kick it Up a Notch - Watch out! (13)
