good morning, america. the deep freeze bringing bone-chilling cold and wind, north to south at this hour. highways at a standstill. snow sweeping all the way to north carolina. why it's feeling like january in november. new developments in the obama care debacle. reports this morning the website will not be fixed fully by the november deadline. as we hear from the mysterious woman whose face became the target for critics. dubbed glitch girl. how she said she was bullied off the site in an exclusive interview. >> i'm here to defend myself. and stand up for myself. alec baldwin. emotional in court, as he faces off with his alleged stalker. revealing the moment she interrupted his proposal to his wife. worried she had a gun. and why he says her behavior was straight out of a hitchco*ck movie. he's free.

here. that is the first dog ever to go to the base camp at mt. everest. on top of the world right now. and you will not believe the back story on -- oh, no. >> oh. bring him back. >> that is remarkable. >> yeah. that story is amazing. we begin with the blast of winter weather being felt so many places this morning. abc's ginger zee is here with the latest on the deep freeze. and she is out in the deep freeze there in times square. good morning, ginger. >> the only way to tell the story is to be out here when it feels like it's 24. that's right. manhattan having its first deep freeze. so many others seeing their first snow, including tennessee. the pictures you are seeing now are, yes, from the smokey mountains of tennessee. and extended all of the way to north carolina. this was not just snow for places like pittsburgh or indiana, which you're seeing there. a lot of accidents. thousands of accidents on that first snow. even if it's just a little. up to a foot and a half of snow happened in lake-effect land. so, st. joseph's, michigan. now, it's followed by this. the windchill across the nation. waking up in kansas city, it feels like 8.

12, in chicago. and all the way in florida, 35 in tallahassee. there's the first recorded snow ever, the earliest ever in wilmington, north carolina. and a quick look at what's happening in the south. there are states from new mexico to south carolina in freeze watch this morning. much more coming up. we'll head back inside where it's toasty and warm. >> it's unbelievable. able to make a snowman already in north carolina. that's how much snow is there. we'll let you come in in just a moment. first, josh has the other top stories for us. >> we're going to begin with a scare for passengers aboard an american airlines flight from miami to boston. you see the plane here. that plane forced to make an emergency landing in orlando when its windshield cracked at some 30,000 feet. making it hard for the pilots to see. thankfully, the plane managed to be landed safely and no one was hurt. aid workers trying to help victims of that killer storm in the philippines are now dodging gunfire as the scene becomes

increasingly desperate. we're getting a new look at the devastation in these before and after pictures. you see entire neighborhoods swept away, ceasing to exist after that monster typhoon struck. just overnight, the death toll topped 2200. but the hundreds of thousands left behind are fighting to survive. no food. no water. and abc's terry moran is now in the storm zone. good morning, terry. >> reporter: hello, josh. the sun is going down on day five after the typhoon struck. and the exodus here continues. thousands of people are coming to this airport every day, standing in the broiling sun, in the rain, through the night, hoping against hope for a flight out. the people here are on the move. the lucky ones, boarding planes. others, clogging roads, covering their faces from the ghastly smells. and some fleeing by boat. mary rose has five children. and they're all sick, feverish,

slack jawed, maybe from the filthy water. yesterday, four days after the storm, her neighbor's baby died in a convulsion, because there was no medicine to bring down a fever. >> they don't have milk for them. >> reporter: the philippine government is struggling to meet the challenges here. so, the u.s. is doing most of the relief work. flying in more than 100,000 pounds of aid. bringing in more c-130 cargo planes. we spoke with general paul kennedy, leading the u.s. effort. how does it make you feel? >> makes me feel good to give back to people i've known for 30 years. it's nice to be able to help these folks. they have stuck with us through thick and thin. we ought to be doing the same. >> reporter: there was gunfire in the city today and a food riot in a nearby province, as the desperation increases here and people don't get the aid they need. this place is becoming a tinderbox. josh? >> terrifying ordeal. thank you, terry. meanwhile, back here at

home, it is the largest ever settlement involving faulty medical devices. johnson & johnson will pay some $4 billion to settle lawsuits over defective hip implants. patients reported difficulty walking and other serious side effects. and a pro ballplayer known as big baby. however, unfortunately, lived up to his name, while visiting a florida hotel. glen davis of the orlando magic, threw the temper tantrum you see here captured on tape, when he was told there were no rooms available. he rips out a keyboard there and hurls it across the lobby. davis makes some $6 million a year. no idea why he was so eager to stay at a $59 a night room. at the travellodge. he has apologized saying, and i quote, there is no excuse for what i did. end quote. guys? >> thanks, josh. going to washington now. and new reports the obama care website will not be fully fixed by the late november deadline. it comes as the president is taking friendly fire from one of his biggest allies, former president clinton, saying

obama should stick to his promise and let all americans keep their current health plans. abc's jon karl has more on that. good morning, jon. >> reporter: good morning, george. president clinton has been one of the most forceful advocates of the health care law. one the president turns to explain the law. but he could not be more direct. he said the president should consider changing the law, if that's what it takes to keep his promise to those now losing their coverage. >> i personally believe, even if it takes a change in the law, the president should honor the commitment the federal government made to those people and let them keep what they got. >> reporter: it's not just bill clinton. we also heard from many democrats on capitol hill. most recently, dianne feinstein of california, saying that there should be a law -- endorsing a law to help insure those losing coverage can keep coverage. as for the president, the white house says his health care team is looking at options to try to keep that promise or at least help people losing their coverage. but, george, absolutely no sign

of what they have in mind. and no options have been presented to the president. >> that comes as "the washington post" reports this morning that the deadline for it, late november deadline is not going to be met. thanks very much. george, another side of the obama care rollout. and the woman who became the face of the website fiasco, plastered on the home page of healthcare.gov. the source of anger for so many. and abc's amy robach spoke to her in an abc exclusive. great to see you, amy. >> thanks so much. good morning, robin. >> her picture may be gone from the website. but the woman who has a name, adriana, says she's not completely over the sting of what she calls bullying. it's the face that launched a frenzied hunt. >> that smiling lady. >> have you seen the mystery girl? >> reporter: as frustrations with the glitch-plagued obama care website mounted, people turned their attention to the mystery woman on the home page. and until now, her identity remained a secret. why do you want to speak out now? >> because i deserve a chance to tell people who i am, and just

let everybody else say whatever they want. >> reporter: who is the woman who was the face of the obama care website? >> i'm a mother. and i'm a wife. and i'm not a professional model. >> reporter: adriana, who asked that we not use her last name is from colombia, and not a u.s. citizen, though she is eligible to apply for health care under her permanent residency status. and while she says the picture was supposed to be a typical stock photo, she said she never anticipated it would quickly become a laughing stock. >> we signed a release that said it was supposed to be used for material for promoting the health care. no. it was going to have a negative impact. >> reporter: you've been dubbed glitch girl, the most despised face on the planet. did you ever anticipate this type of publicity? scrutiny? >> no. >> reporter: adding insult to injury, adriana said she wasn't paid for the photo. have you ever experienced

anything like this before in your life? >> no. that's a reason i wanted to be here. as a kid, i never went through that. but now i am. you know? it's bullying. >> reporter: it is bullying. >> but at the same time, you know, i thought, i have to do this, for my child. i'm here to stand up for myself and defend myself. >> reporter: good for her. her photo was taken down from the website two weeks ago. and adriana says she is now able to find some humor in the face of all of that negativity. and we asked the administration for a response to the website's new look. they say they always wanted to make changes to the home page. calling it a dynamic website. but she certainly took the fall unfairly so. >> that's right. and i can't let you get away. i hope you're feeling the love and support since your announcement the other day. >> i am. thank you so much. it's so uplifting, as you know. >> i know you have a big day

tomorrow. >> yes. thanks. we are going to turn to the big change in medical guidelines that could affect one in three adults. the american heart association now recommending a major expansion in the number of americans who take statins to lower their risk of heart attack and stroke. abc's chief health and medical editor, dr. richard besser, is here with what it all means. this could affect tens of millions of americans. >> this is a huge change. we know, as you said, that statins lower your risk of heart attack and stroke. we used to treat people with high cholesterol. now, the goal is to treat everyone who is at risk of having heart attack or stroke. >> for those of us who already take statins, we no longer have to worry about the cholesterol target? >> this is just as big. it used to be, you are put on a statin, and your doctor is looking for you to hit a target of bad cholesterol. no longer. what we know from studies, just being on that statin is enough to lower your risk. it doesn't matter what number you get down to. >> that's good news. break down who this is going to affect. >> there's four groups they're recommending statins for. people with high cholesterol. anyone who has had a heart attack or stroke. this is a new group.

anyone 40 to 75 who has diabetes. and the biggest group is the last one. people who have a risk of having a heart attack over the next ten years of 7.5%. they put out a new risk calculator. you put in your age, your sex, your race, whether you smoke, whether you have a high cholesterol or blood pressure. it kicks out a number. if it's 7.5% or higher, you go on a statin. that could double the number of people who take statins. >> wow. okay. rich besser, thanks very much. >> that was astounding right there. now, to the florida mother who could soon be released from prison after winning an appeal in her stand-your-ground case. she was sentenced last year to 20 years for firing a single shot that she claims was a warning shot. abc's steve osunsami has her story. >> reporter: this morning, a mother's plea for freedom. >> this is my life i'm fighting for. this is my life. and it's my life. and it's not entertainment. it is my life. >> reporter: marissa alexander, the other face of florida's

controversial stand-your-ground law, telling cnn, she was defending herself, when she fired a warning shot during an argument with her husband in december 2010. >> he put his hands around my neck. >> reporter: alexander's lawyers argued she was standing her ground. the florida law that was widely discussed before the george zimmerman trial down the road in sanford. but didn't work here. the mother of three has been jailed and away from her children since february of 2011. sentenced to 20 years in prison. not for murder. but for firing into a wall at her home. >> drop all the charges! today, she'll face a florida judge once again. this time, begging him to set her free while she waits for a new trial. an appeals court ruled in september that the original judge gave the jury wrong instructions. in court papers filed tuesday, alexander's lawyers argue that there's no evidence she poses a risk of flight. or that she poses any general danger to the community. even her now ex-husband is saying her prison sentence was too severe. >> i didn't want my wife to go

to prison. i wanted to help her. >> reporter: this morning, after more than two years in jail, she's hoping she'll be able to see her children before christmas. for "good morning america," steve osunsami, abc news, atlanta. we turn, now, to the 911 dispatcher in big trouble this morning. it all began when her trainee sent an ambulance to the wrong address while she was on her cell phone. it was caught on camera. now the i dispatcher is being suspended and is facing charges. matt gutman has the story. >> hey, we need some help. we're at the ormond rec. and one of our friends collapsed on the racket ball court. i don't know if it's a seizure or he passed out, or what? >> is that a park somewhere? >> reporter: it started with this call. 911 dispatcher shanna justice was at work when friends sought help for 58-year-old bob hill who had collapsed from apparent cardiac arrest. >> yes. he's still out. he's been out for a good 30, 40 seconds. he's turning red. >> reporter: the caller provides

detailed information about hill's location to a trainee, seated there on the right, beside justice. >> yeah, the ormond beach recreational center, like ormond rec, the corner of -- >> you know -- okay. i'm listening. granada and where -- >> it's nova road. and wilmack. >> reporter: right there, that's justice, using her cell phone, when she was supposed to be supervising the call. the sheriff's office said she was using the phone when the trainee sent the ambulance to the wrong address. >> it's not good. we need someone. he's not responding to anything. his eyes -- >> reporter: the nervous caller wondered at the ambulance absence. but was reassured by the trainee that help was coming. >> is anyone coming? >> you can -- yeah. they've been on the way. >> reporter: ten minutes after the call was placed, the nervous trainee realized the error. >> come on, bob. come on, baby. come back to us. >> are you doing the ventilations right now? >> yes. >> okay. >> reporter: by the time the ambulance reached the correct address, responders were unable to resuscitate hill.

justice has been suspended without pay. and in a bizarre twist on tuesday, pulled a gun on a reporter who came to her house to question her. she's been charged and could face jail time if convicted with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. for "good morning america," matt gutman, abc news, miami. >> that's a tough one. >> it is. you have a great story, lara. >> i do. so happy to bring this to you. good morning, to you, everybody. now, we share with you the remarkable story of the dog who hit bottom. abandoned in a dump. he was rescued. now, he's on top of the world. take a look. it is the ultimate underdog tail. rupee, a once-abandoned pup, making canine history. becoming the first dog on record to climb mt. everest. his owner, joanne, by his side. >> he did amazingly well. >> reporter: but rupee wasn't always on top of the world. she found him in rough shape, just a few months ago. abandoned in this dump.

>> i was in the himalayan area in northern india. this little pup came charges towards me. >> reporter: starving, dehydrated and near death, rupee fell into her lap. and she fell in love. she nursed him back to health. back home in south africa and decided to bring rupee along on her climb. as her slumdog mountaineer. >> it was amazing to watch rupee transform into this amazing, you know, mt. everett, trekking, superdog. he took the lead on most days. we were kind of dragging up, you know, behind him. >> reporter: it turns out rupee was following in distinguished paw prints. you may remember lefson on "gma" last year, after her dog became the first ever to travel around the world. >> he has a little jet lag. because we just arrived from south africa. >> reporter: lefson planned to do the climb with oscar. but sadly, he passed away. just a few months later, she

standing by to talk to us in a couple minutes. >> he is. we're going to get right to alec baldwin, facing off in open court, against the woman he says relentlessly stalked him for years. she's taking the stand today, a day after baldwin broke down during a number of explosionsive changes while testifying. >> what job did you want to do that you failed at? >> reporter: alec baldwin sparring with paparazzi tuesday. but that was nothing compared to what went on inside the courtroom as he faced off with his alleged stalker. >> genevieve sabourin. >> are you a stalker? >> i'm not. >> reporter: the canadian actress charged with 23 counts of harassment and one count of stalking. she's pleaded not guilty. >> i haven't done anything. >> reporter: in court, a fired-up sabourin, repeatedly rupting the 55-year-old actor and his wife, during their testimony. again and again, shouting, you're lying. on the stand, baldwin's

demeanor, increasingly emotional. while recounting the day he proposed to his wife in the hamptons. baldwin testifying that when he saw sabourin pull up in a car, i ran to tell my wife not to go near the door because i wasn't sure if she had a gun. the actor read out loud several e-mails from his alleged stalker, who he met through a friend. he said her behavior was something out of a hitchco*ck movie. i want to be your wife now. say yes. allegedly asking baldwin for a new wardrobe, car and jewels, and a baby she called a minibaldwin. in court, sabourin's interruptions continued, when baldwin denied having sex with her, after they had lunch together in 2010. she shouted, really? and pointed to her hip saying, he has a scar. >> i can prove i had a relationship with him. but he's lying. >> reporter: hilaria baldwin testified that sabourin showed up at her east village apartment, last easter. but was stopped by the doorman.

that prompted another outburst from sabourin, who shouted, she's lying. and you're going to hell. hilaria baldwin went on to describe what she called menacing tweets from sabourin. accusing her of faking her pregnancy. hilaria ended her testimony by saying, i'm terrified of her. the trial resumes this afternoon. for "good morning america," ron claiborne, abc news. >> a lot of fireworks there. we're going to turn to the big day for 29-year-old ryan ferguson, free, now, after spending a decade behind bars for a murder he says he did not commit. ryan is here to speak with us, after this from dan abrams. >> this is how i knew. >> reporter: this morning, ryan ferguson is a free man. after spending nearly a decade in prison for a murder he always maintained he didn't commit. >> i'm actually happier for my parents right now than i am for me because -- they've had to deal with so much. >> reporter: ferguson's ordeal began in 2003, two years after the murder.

he and friend, charles erickson, were both accused of murdering sports journalist, ken heitholt. >> i looked up. and ryan was over the victim. >> reporter: ferguson was convicted and sentenced to 40 years. then, years later, erickson recanted. admitting he lied in his testimony against ryan. none of the physical evidence found at the scene linked ryan to the murder. last week, a missouri appeals court overturned ferguson's conviction, saying, quote, newly discovered evidence clearly and convincingly establishes that he's actually innocent. tuesday, the missouri attorney general's office announced it won't be pursuing a retrial. meaning ferguson can now move on with his life. what has been particularly troubling is how long it took to get to this point. it's been clear for years now

that there was no evidence remaining against ryan. and yet, only now, is he finally a free man. george? >> that free man joins us now. ryan ferguson, along with his father, bill. thank you, both, for joining us this morning. ryan, i love that photo. how did the steak taste? >> it tasted amazing. a steak after that long. eni had an amazing person cooking it for me. and amazing steakhouse, in columbia. the best there is. >> get that plug in. bill, i was so touched by what ryan said about your ordeal. he said it was worse for you than it was for him. >> it's hard to believe. i would not want to trade places with him. >> i'm sure that's true. but, ryan, you said it was your father's advice that got you through this. >> absolutely. there's so much that he's kind of guided me through in the past decade. my whole life, really. anytime i needed him.

even on the phone, i could call him all day every day, if i needed to. and helped get through the first few years. you know, you need that support. you need amazing family. and fortunately, i definitely have that. >> ryan, just to hear that phrase, the first few years. i think most of us can't even imagine what it must feel like to be spending time in prison for a murder you know in your heart you did not commit. >> without having had an opportunity to reflect on it, i still don't know exactly how it really feels because i've just been trying to survive. and you try to make it from day-to-day. and that's it. that's what prison is all about. you just do anything that you can to make yourself bigger, stronger and faster. and survive. so, that's what i did for a decade. >> what are you going to do, going forward? >> i'm not certain. you know? i'm going to work hard. i know that. do a lot of things with my

father. we have a lot to work on together. i want to spend time with my family. i'm going to just remain optimistic. and see what happens. and if nothing comes down the road, i'm going to create my own opportunities. >> as you look forward, do you seek any kind of remedy in the courts? or you just want to put it all behind you? >> i'm going to let the attorneys handle that. i've had my whole 20s taken from me. right now, i'm focused on spending time with my family. i haven't really looked into those issues. really, it's just about getting on with life and getting back to some normalcy. >> you've had the steak. you had the beer. what's next on your bucket list? >> i don't know. i need to just take care of the little things in life. get an i.d. you know, get some clothes. i'm literally starting life with nothing, other than obviously an amazing family, which is everything. but i have no material possessions. i have no clothes, other than the ones i'm wearing, which are

older, i care about the nudity. >> really? >> it probably does determine, the age of the child, too. what bothers you more. >> i think the nudity makes parents more uncomfortable at the theater. if you're sitting next to your child -- >> yeah. >> i would think that's the one that's more uncomfortable. >> i hope that parents who have a problem with violence, also have a problem with the video games that are in their 12-year-old's bedroom, they are playing without -- >> that often also has a lot of nudity as well. those are many bo-fers. >> that they consume for hours and hours on end. >> let's head to social on this. jane, guns are worse. nudity isn't deadly. it won't kill you or others. healthy on facebook. nudity, because i believe our kids are smart enough to not go out and be violent. we took a poll. what do you think is worse? sex or violence in movies. 31% say sex is worse. 69% say violence. >> there you have it.

people have spoken. >> the people have spoken. i'm not sure that i buy it. i'm not wrong. i'm not wrong. next up, a new building proposed in florida will hold parents criminally responsible if they don't properly supervise kids who engage in cyberbullying. keep in mind, we do this with other things. for example, you have a gun in your home not properly supervised, parents can be held criminally responsible. is it time to hold the parents criminally responsible? >> but a gun can kill someone by design, not a computer. i agree with you on this. i think it's going too far to say we're going to hold parents criminally responsible for the actions of their kids. >> how about on a case-by-case basis. which is what the legal system is for. parents could have prevented bullying from happening. and if it's proven they could have prevented the bullying from happening. i think the bullying is a reflection of the parenting involved. and if you could stop it -- >> that's the problem. >> that is a problem. but again, i would argue those

good morning. i'm eric thomas. power has been restored to nearly 3,600 pg&e customers in rotor park this morning including its biggest user, the newly opened graton casino. the power went out shortly before 11:00 last night after a vehicle hit a utility pole. power was restored about 90 minutes later but at one point the casino and all customers were left in the dark and told to evacuate. chips were on the table when the lights went out and some confusion as to when people could cash-in their chips. taking a look now at the morning commute. a look outside atd the san mateo bridge, we see traffic here is light and zipping right along as the sun is out this morning. and the bay bridge toll plaza which is backed up, the metering lights are on and even the fast

"hunger games" and katniss and peeta have survived. we're in "catching fire." how does beetee figure into this film? >> it's the 75th anniversary games.

and having to duke it out. >> i don't know if anybody loves that. it's a harrowing experience. their reaction to it is very personal. there's a lot of politics and social commentary made in the film. but it's driven by personal feelings and resentment that you're forced to be a gladiator when you probably didn't want to do that in the first place. >> been there, done that. >> yeah. >> you were just at the world premiere in london. reaction? >> reaction was actually really moving. you have all of the kids out there who love the books and love the characters. and they have a sense of ownership for them. and for them to interact with us and for us to interact with them, it was really very touching. they're so serious about it. it's not fluff to them. it's not a fluff movie. it's big budget and all that. the themes are virtuous. love, friends, family. things people relate to on a very personal level.
