The $54.5 million Sally Buselt Elementary School is ready for students this fall in Menifee.
The kindergarten through fifth-grade school, with a big red barn design at its center, will serve up to 600 students in Riverside County.
C.W. Driver Cos., based in Pasadena, recently completed work on the school, which sits on 10 acres and was funded by Measure Q, state reimbursem*nt and community facilities district funding.
Students, teachers and staff will spend their school days inside 23 classrooms, built in a horseshoe configuration, a kindergarten building, an administration building, library, food service kitchen and multipurpose room.

The school, named after longtime teacher Sally Buselt, has play and track fields, playgrounds, 103 parking spaces and a spot for student pickup and drop-off.
Buselt taught at Menifee Elementary for more than 15 years. She was killed in a car crash with a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department vehicle in 2001.
This was the second school project from C.W. Driver with the Menifee Union School District. The company did a complete rehab of Menifee Valley Middle School, completed in 2022.

‘Sweet’ Candeeland opens at Galleria
The sugary sweet party palaceCandeeland has opened at the Galleria at Tyler in Riverside.
The pay-to-play concept designed in bright candy colors for children features “sweet” activities for kids who like to slide and climb. There’s even a “little land” for the youngest participants, and a candy shop.
The retail center will celebrate Candeeland’s opening at noon on Friday, Aug. 16.
Candeeland also hosts birthday parties, with prices ranging from $300 all the way up to $750.

Job fair coming to Desert Springs resort
JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort is hosting a two-day job fair in Palm Desert.
Available positions included housekeeping, culinary and front desk.

FasTrak opens walk-in center in Rancho Cucamonga
A new customer service center for FasTrak members opened recently at Rancho Cucamonga’s City Hall.
The center will help customers as the debut nears for the SB Express Lanes on the 10 freeway in San Bernardino County.
The Toll Roads said it will be the account manager and payment processing partner for SB Express Lanes, which will be operated by the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority.

In other FasTrak news, the California Toll Operators Committee recently updated the website FasTrak.org, which provides toll information and maps for some 6 million FasTrak accountholders.
The newly designed website comes not long after California Attorney General Rob Bonta warned consumers not to be tricked into paying toll amounts via text messages.
Bonta’s office on Monday, July 1 issued a consumer alert following “an uptick in text-based scams claiming consumers owe express lane or toll charges and asking for online payment.”
The text scams work by duping recipients with a message they have “overdue toll charges.” In order to avoid late fees, the consumer is told to clink the embedded link for more details.

$3 million grant going to improve Highland interchange
The city of Highland is getting $3 million to make road improvements to reduce congestion and improve commute times at the 210 and 5th Street interchange.
Rep. Pete Aguilar secured the federal grant, which is being funded by the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024.
The mayor of Highland, Penny Lilburn, said she was “delighted” by the grant and the prospect of improving transportation issues in the city.
“We are not only making our city more accessible, but also fostering local economic growth and improving the quality of life for everyone in Highland,” Lilburn said in a statement.
The money will go toward widening 5th Street and adding lanes to the on- and off-ramps.
“Every day, our friends and neighbors rely on this freeway to get to work, take their kids to school and enjoy time with friends and family,” Aguilar said. “Investing in our infrastructure helps our local businesses grow and thrive and improves the economy.”

Simmons is the new chief executive officer at Agile Sourcing Partners Inc., a Corona-based provider of supply chain services and corrosion-resistant products for electric and gas utilities and construction contractors. He previously spent 19 years at Pike Electric, most recently as a senior vice president. Agile, founded in 2006, works with the utility sector, providing a range of services.
Retail recap: Big Lots closing 75 stores in CA
Discount retailer Big Lots last week said it will shutter 75 stores in California.
A 386-page filing to the Securities and Exchange Commission detailed new loan terms with its creditors, which including closing more stores than it previously thought. Two months ago, Big Lots said it would close 150 stores, but that number has vaulted to 315.
California is taking the biggest hit. By the time the latest 75 stores close, it will operate just 34 locations in the state. At least 30 of the closures are in Southern California.
