February 13th, Fishing on Cooks Bay and Ice conditions

What a difference a couple of days make! Last weekend we were bulldozing through slush and then by Monday afternoon we picked up another 5 inches of ice for a total of 15″ right now in our camp. 10 inches of black ice, 5 inches of new white ice on top. No slush holes or pressure cracks to be concerned about in our travels. The top is snow covered with some slightly deeper drifts from the wind today. It should be good going for ATV’s and snow machines for this weekend.

We have had fish under us constantly and biting for the last 8 days. Pike action has been a little off but guests managed a couple of decent ones. One lake trout last Sunday! tons of perch. Size, 8.5 to 9.5 mostly with a few 10/11/12 thrown in. Minnows working well on any combination of a teardrop or spreader. Looking forward to a good weekend of fishing, as always be careful out there, check with an operator before going out. Mother nature is boss! Whitey
