Just to let everyone know that Cooks Bay, Lake Simcoe now has 10 inches of good ice where our huts are set up. Although many parts of the “big lake” are still either open, or just beginning to freeze, people should know that you can now fish Cooks Bay. It is important to note that although you may hear news reports about “lake simcoe” and are asked to stay off the ice, the fact is that Lake Simcoe is a huge lake. As with most lakes that have small bays such as Cooks Bay, we are typically the first to freeze up and get fishing. It may take the bigger parts of the lake a few more weeks to have fishable ice. As of now, no one should be on Cooks Bay with a car or truck, ATV’s or skidoos are the way to travel. As you can see from the video, we are measuring ice thickness as we go, and are at 10 inches. Since the end of December we have been on the perch grounds with reports of some good days and some mediocre days of fishing. We are hoping for a productive weekend and are taking reservations for Jan 8 and 9th (Saturday/Sunday). Give us a call and lets go fishing! We will report the weekend results on Sunday.
