The perch catching for the last two weeks has been pretty much non stop. Besides perch, there have been some decent sized pike caught. Even with the full moon above us, it has not effected the bite. We get the odd lull here and there, but generally steady every day. Most people putting 20 to 40 perch in their buckets per day. Everyone is happy, no complaints. Fish have been gobbling up our live minnows. There has not really been a time when they’ve turned down live minnows. Artificial baits for those that use them are working well also. These are being used without the aid of a live minnow. For instance; the smallest jigging rapala that you can buy in any colour, such as silver belly/green back, gold belly/black back, and another favorite is painted as we call in “the clown” cream painted with polka dots. Any of these rapalas jigged close to bottom (stir it up a bit), and brough up 6 to 8 ” usually produce fish. If you have a proper ice rod with 4 lb test you should not have a problem catching with any of these lures. Any little teardrop, swedish pimple, even the bigger jack spoon, or plain hooks have been doing well…the bite has been on for a few weeks. If you do go fishing and the bite is soft, make sure that you have some micro jigs in the box and some 2 lb test and berkely power baits or manufactured eggs of a variety of colours and it will entice those finicky fish to enhale it! A few big pike in the area biting everyone off. Best way to handle him is to bring yourself 10-12 lb test with a tight drag, stiffer rod and silver/gold or silver/blue spoon such as a gator, or a williams or a no 7 jigging rapala, anything with flash and a bit of scent jigged 2-3 feet off the bottom could hook those predators. We are in the perch and pike areas, rig up for your preference! Good luck, remember, take a kid fishing!!! Whitey
