We had to watch for huts a slidin in the extreme wind all morning.A lot of new landscape out there to-day. Huts everywhere. Our anchors held all, but one, some other hut plowed into it and all hell broke loose. Have you ever been blown a’shore Billy? It was absolutely brutal out on the ice to-day. Second time this year I had to put my helper in the back pocket, even then a little lite. Winds were howling. Total whiteouts, thank the big guy for GPS. If you are looking for your hut, look on the east side, anywhere from the river, Keswick, north to Roches, maybe yours is among the 5 in the crack at Roches. Lots on shore, east side.Ice surface got hard really fast at 6 this morn., only lost the snow on top yesterday. Slick as hell all day, fightin a n/w gale. The snow forecast for Fri.Feb 1st will be miserable, but if you can get to the landing at Glenwwods Ave, Keswick, we can put you in a nice warm hut. Ice is great on Cooks Bay, Lake Simcoe, We are currently working 11 to 12 in. of ice on our travels. You should not find any less than 8 inches anywhere on Cook’s Bay. But be aware that the main portion ( big part of Simcoe) only closed up in the last 8 days. Check with locals or other operators for more info north of Cooks,BEFORE going out. I can imagine the main lake ice took a beating to-day, but this is the second time Cooks held up to mother nature.Good to Go. Fishin sucked to day, but tomorrow is another day, its hard to talk people out of going out. As always ( disclaimer)there is never any “safe” ice, all bodys of water have their own characteristics ie: shoals, points, springs, currents, river mouths and some times just plain thin ice. If no one is out there, there’s a reason why? We have a couple huts left for Fri and Sun. this week, Sat is booked. Thanks so much for all those who appreciate our efforts, and welcome all newcomers. As operators go on the lake we are probably small, only 14 huts, but this works for us. Please remember we are only in the perch grounds on cooks bay so cannot comment on the big lake ice or results for Whities and Lakers. We will keep you posted on fishing and ice conditions as we go into the weekend.
