Ice Conditions, Late Ice cooks bay March 09

For those of you coming from afar, as of today we still have 15 inches of ice on all of cooks bay. Bare in mind that there are creeks and rivers running into the shoreline which may make areas adjacent to shore unpredictable. Once you are out on the main ice sheet, you will not have any problems either walking or ATV’ing. The ice has started to pull away from shore slightly therefore the on and off could be problematic, unless you have an Argo. The ice has started to honeycomb. It will not support the weight it did two weeks ago so forget about cars and trucks. The surface is void of snow so forget about snow machines. If you are going, never go alone…go with a buddy and check with a local operator especially at this time of year. We will update until March 31. Stay safe! Whitey

Ice Conditions Cooks Bay March 3, 2009

If you are coming up fishing this weekend, hope for some snow on top if you are driving a sled. This has been a really unusual winter in ontario. January we had more snow and doubled our ice thickness more quickly than we have ever seen on the ice. Now, as of this post the [...]

Fishing Report and Ice Report, Cooks Bay Feb 24, 2009

No one filled their buckets today but there were fish under us. You had to be picky. Mostly what I got from everyone that today was a great day to be outside fishing! As compared to yesterday when it was like the NWT with winds and snowing and blowing, today was like fishing [...]

Ice Condition Update Feb 20/09

A real blustery and winter day out on the hard surface today. Loose powder blowing all over with the strong winds. No problem with us getting people out as we have the equipment to do that. I guess the biggest factor that are of concern with people are the ice conditions. Yes, we [...]

Cooks Bay Conditions, Feb 10, 2009

We have had some mild temps in the last few days in our area. The best part about that is that it has knocked down the snow load on Cooks Bay that has accumulated on the ice during our recent very snowy weeks. The ice has continued to firm up on the top at [...]

2009 Season has started!!!

The past couple of weeks has seen a roller coaster of weather on Lady Simcoe. Heavy snow, rain and then high winds have delivered us a real crap shoot of conditions! Fortunately though the whole bay has stood up and we have ice coverage over the whole of cooks bay. We will start off [...]

December 23, 2008 Anticipation on Cooks Bay!!!!!

As the video shows, Cooks Bay looks like it is completely closed up. We can only inform you of conditions in the area that we fish. We mainly fish Keswick on the east side, and we cannot comment on ice surfaces on the West side of the bay. We are out right now with a [...]

Dec 18th…Getting Ready

As you can see from the video, we have staged some huts on shore in preparation for taking out to deeper water. We will watch mother nature over the next few days and hope to have the huts out deeper so that those that would like to fish over the holidays can be accommodated. [...]

Ice Forming on Cooks Bay

Mother Nature has been cooperating nicely, making more ice out on Cooks Bay. It is mild today, but colder temps are called for the rest of the week. There was one lone fisherman towing a sled out there, but that is not wise at this point. The ice is just forming and new, [...]
